Rebekah Starkey
North to Alaska may be the more familiar refrain, but for Rebekah it’s South from Alaska.
As a small child she lived in a log cabin “out in the middle of nowhere”, before moving to Anchorage, where she grew up. And then somehow, fortunately, she found her way to Catalyst way out here on the prairie.
Her initial step in this direction was when she followed her dream of becoming a vocal performer, and ventured down to the University of Northern Colorado because of the renowned music program in its College of Performing and Visual Arts. Along the way, she rediscovered her greater passion for art, and that translated into a degree in graphic design. Although that’s now her career, Rebekah hasn’t given up singing. She performs in local productions and periodically breaks out in song around the house or office.
After college, the yearn to spend time with her grandparents took Rebekah to southeast Kansas for a visit. Instead of the intended brief stay, she ended up with a position at the Parsons Sun. From there, it was a short jaunt to The Hutchinson News, where she was supervisor of the creative services department until we invited her to join us.
